Where to Stay for One Day in Dubrovnik Budget. Guest House Amalija — You’ll need to catch the bus to the Old Town (a must for staying on a budget in Dubrovnik), but Guest House Amalija is the perfect retreat from the hecticness of the city center. Strongly built to withstand pirates and invaders, Old Town with its high walls and bastions was once considered to be among the greatest fortification systems of the Middle Ages. Dubrovnik is widely renowned as one of the world's finest and most perfectly preserved medieval cities in the world.
Pile Gate. Dating back to 1537, Pile Gate is a stone gate at the entrance to Dubrovnik Old town. This is a constantly busy site but is worth a visit due to its wonderful sculptured stone, Renaissance arches and historic significance. It is exceptionally beautiful when lit up at night, or during the guards, which also happens at night.
