My PS3 slim has started to shut itself down without warning, as if the plug had been pulled. No blinking red light indicating overheating, no sounds or lights otherwise, just dead. Sometimes with luck of the draw it actually boots and I see ps3 xmb screen. But if I power down (red light still on) and turn back on, sometimes it has video out and most of time it doesn't. I suspect the rsx is failing only because if I remove the hard drive and turn on the ps3, I don't get video output to tell me storage device is missing.
I can't get into trying safe mode (holding down the power button to turn off, then holding power button down to wait for the beeps) because after 5 minutes of holding the power button there were no other beeps. So ps3 was having an issue saying that it was corruoted and needed to be restore so I did that and it would go up to 80% and then a black screen would come up. I searched online for a fix and apparently going to safe mode and restoring to default settings would fix it.
