The 250r is a great bike that you will never grow out of. You can ride it slow as you want to. A lot of the other options people have given will be lacking as soon as you become a good rider. They are all excellent bikes. And they will all do you well as a beginner but as soon as you get good you’ll not enjoy them anymore.

Sure the 450 will be better in the open sand, but, the 250 is perfect for anywhere. Especially if the rider is the average guy. I know this because I got rid of my husky 450 but I went to a 300.
